Garbage and Recycling Information

UPDATE:  All residents in New Denmark have been switched to a Thursday pick up schedule.  Please place all garbage carts and recycling bins road side by 6:00 a.m. on Thursday for pick up.  If a holiday falls on a Thursday, pick up will be delayed one day.  Any questions or concerns about your pick up times, please contact GFL Environmental at (920) 983-3341 or the Town Clerk.

The Town contracts with GFL Environmental for garbage an recycling disposal. Carts and bins will be provided  to new  town  residents  by GFL. Please contact the Clerk when you are ready for service. A 95 gallon recycling cart for commingled recycables and a 65 gallon cart for residential waste will be provided to you. A special assessment fee for garbage/recycling will be added to your property tax bill at the end of the year.

A few helpful hints concerning garbage collection:

  • Lids on the cart must be closed or your cart may be red tagged due to excess waste.
  • Carts should be placed roadside no earlier than 24 hours prior to your scheduled pick-up.
  • Paper should either be bagged or bundled to prevent blowing when placed curbside.

Residents can upgrade to larger carts for a minimal fee: A 95 gallon garbage cart can be requested for an additional $36.00 a year.  GFL Environmental will direct bill individual residents for this upgrade.

GFL Environmental, LLC
Arrangements can also be made directly with GFL to have bulky or excess waste picked-up by calling 1-920-983-3341. Pre-payment is required along with specifics as to what is being picked up.  Cost is $125 for first item and $25 each additional item (up to 5 items total).  GFL will not pick up yard waste or Christmas trees.

Brown County Landfill
The Brown County landfill is also available to residents for disposal of large waste. The landfill is located at 1258 Mill Road, Greenleaf, Wisconsin. Rates, hours of operation and directions can be obtained online at www.browncountyrecycling.org/south-landfill or by calling 920-492-4950 for more information.

Yard Waste
The Town does not provide for disposal of yard waste and it is left to each resident to properly disposal of his or her own waste. Please note, ditch are maintained and controlled by the Town. Yard waste should not be placed in the right-of-way as it can cause problems with drainage and flowage of water and block the culverts. Please consider recycling your waste by composting and/or shredding. Please visit https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/Recycling/compost.html for more ideas about yard waste recycling.
